The Unlimited Street East was held this past weekend in conjunction with the SEVWA Northern Challenge at Motormile Dragway in Radford, Virginia. In the finals Gene Cook took the win over Jerry Lewis. For his victory Gene was awarded $1,000.00, a $225.00 gift certificate from Bugpack and a GSC pulley set while Jerry walked away with $500.00, a $125.00 gift certificate from Bugpack and a GSC pulley set. Rounding out the Top 5 were Troy Sellars ($100.00), Joe Koenig ($50.00) and Blake May ($50.00). The Luppino Racing Low ET award went to Jerry Lewis (6.69 ET) and the Luppino Racing Top Speed award went to Gene Cook (106.58 MPH), both racers received $150.00. The Cookers VW Best Reaction Time was worth $200.00 and was taken by Troy Sellars with .460 RT. Kawell Racing Engines put up $400.00 for the racers who towed the farthest, with Mel Belwood coming 685 miles and taking the top prize worth $150.00. Joe Koenig (435 miles/$100.00), Blake May (386 miles/$75.00) and Jerry Lewis (300 miles/$75.00) also took home some extra cash. Blake May was the quickest VW in the event with no power adders and that earned him $100.00 and a custom trophy from Maryland Aircooled. Creative Car Concepts "Hard Luck" award as voted on by the racers went to Mel Belwood and was worth a custom shift knob.
