KENNEDALE,
TX (June 23, 2007) - Five races into the
Texas Volkswagen
Drag Racing Association (TVWDRA) 2007 season and there have been five
different winners. This time it was Carl Nolen of Royse City,
TX who made it all the way to the winners circle at
Texas Raceway
in Kennedale, TX by beating Ricky Marshall.
Lyle Cherry Enterprises was the race sponsor and Carl walked
away with a additional $150 cash bonus for his efforts. There
were a total of 17 cars signed up and ready for first round action.
In the quarterfinals Carl faced
his son Raymond Nolen, who won two weeks ago at the TVWDRA Points
Race #3 at this same track and Carl sent him packing. Carl ran
a 6.858 ET (6.770 Dial-In) at 92.58 MPH to Raymond's losing 7.536 ET
(7.530 Dial-In) at 86.82 MPH. Ricky faced Kevin McCartney in
the quarterfinals and ran a 7.052 ET (6.940 Dial-In) at 93.23 MPH to
the losing 8.867 ET (8.900 Dial-In) at 75.71 MPH. Curtis
Conner was next up for Carl in the semi-finals and he won
again with
a 6.918 ET (6.770 Dial-In) at 83.92 MPH to a 7.990 ET (8.000
Dial-In) at 83.60 MPH. Ricky advanced to the finals
thanks in part to the red light (-0.011 RT) by Gary Calvert. Ricky
didn't relax though and ran a 7.024 ET (7.000 Dial-In) at 95.33.
In the finals it was Ricky who saw red, leaving a little early
(-0.023) and giving the easy win to Carl.
