BUGORAMA #59 PREVIEW
On
Sunday, May 27th the
Pro Racing Association (PRA) invades Sacramento Raceway
for their second event of the 2007 drag racing season,
Niello Volkswagen Presents Bugorama #59. The weather
this weekend is looking good with high '80s predicted for
Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Sacramento area. On
Saturday, May 26th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM there will be a
test and tune session. On the day of the race the
gates will open at 7:00 AM with time trials starting at 9:00
AM and running through noon. Eliminations start at
1:00 PM and are scheduled to end at 5:00 PM. Along
with the PRA this is also a Der Renn Kafer Cup race, there
will also be Sportsman and Trophy classes for the novice
racer who wants to give drag racing a try. For more
information on the event you can visit the Bugorama
Promotions of Sacramento website at
www.bugorama.com.
G.
Serrano VW Parts and Service Pro Mod points leader Hector
Urias will not be in Sacramento this weekend, giving Eric
Madson and Eric Calabrese a chance to claim the top spot.
Speaking of the Eric's, with the power both these guys are
making we could see a side-by-side 8-second pass in Pro Mod
and maybe a new record. The current record is held by
Eric
Madson which he set last October at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
with an 8.67 ET at 161.61 MPH. In Heads Up Performance
Super Street, Greg Tims will look to hold onto his points
lead over Doug Gonzalez with other racers like Roger
Crawford, Joe Maestas, Ron Fleming and David Stark also
looking to knock him out of the #1 spot. There are
also rumors that Shawn Geers is bringing a former Alan Fore
owned car to Sacramento and we may just see the Super Street
record broken and possibly dip into the 9 second range by a
number of racers. The current Super Street record
holders are David Stark with a 10.19 ET and Jorre Estrada
with a 131.94 MPH run. Other point leaders who are
looking to defend their leads are "MufflerMike"
Shelden (Bugformance of Sacramento Super Comp), Corrie
Sacchette (VWTurboKits.com Super Gas), Richard Laitinen
(Clyde Berg Heads and Motors Super Modified) and Ernie
Crowley (DPR Machine Shop Pro Eliminator. Last years
winners were Eric Calabrese (Pro Mod), Joe Maestas (Super
Street), Robert Hemphill (Super Comp), Mike Lawless (Super
Gas), Matt Becker (Super Modified) and Clyde Berg (Pro
Eliminator).
