CATCHING UP WITH "THE BURNOUT KING"

ACDRM.com has caught up with Dominic Carollo (aka "The Burnout King") for a little Q&A and to check out the progress of his new car.

About a year and a half ago Dominic purchased the S/S car that was driven to many championships and record setting passes by Shawn Geers and Don Brown.  Since then Dominic has been transforming the once S/S record holder to a Pro Mod Contender. “This project was a lot more than I expected” said Dominic.  He added, "I never intended to run Pro Mod in the beginning, but I got a bright Idea (LOL) and I dove in head first and decided to go BIG".

And so it began…. 

Q: So Dom, how is the car coming along?

A. Really good, it’s been a long hard project. I think I am finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel… LOL I got a few loose ends to tie up on the car. But the car its self is 85% done… Just need to mount the seat and shifter. Witch will be done shortly.  

Q. So how about the motor?

A. That’s pretty much been the struggle of this project. To find and get the parts to make enough power to compete with some of the big names like Eric C, Eric M, and Fiat Pat isn’t easy or cheap.  But Luckily I have some Awesome People in my corner like Geers Engineering and VW Paradise that have led me in the right direction… I pretty much have all the parts to assemble the motor. Just need to do the machine work and turbo system. 

Q. Who is going to build the motor?

A. Well when I jumped into this project head first I think I hit my head, because I have decided to build the motor my self this time around. I just wanted to learn how it’s done. And finally I decided to do it my self. But I cant do everything my self, so that’s where Good Friends like Shawn Geers and Jason Lauffer come in to give me a hand when needed, or just to make sure I do it right. 

Q. Can you give us any details on the motor?

A. Think Big . . . Big Motor, Big Turbo, Big Cam . . .You get the Idea . . . (LOL)

Q. Pro Mods are in the 8’s now; do you think you will be able to run that fast?

A. Well you don’t have to run 8’s to win. That’s been proven. But to answer the question in due time yes. The Eric’s didn’t get there over night and either will I. But I didn’t build the motor to loose if you know what I mean. 

Q. We are all dying to see the car run; will we see it out this year?

A. Well I am sure trying, if things go as planned Vegas is looking good. But my goal is to get it on the track this year, if not to run PM at least to make a few shake down passes. 

Q. How long have you been into Drag Racing VW’s?

A. Going on about 7 years now. Doesn’t seem that long.

Q. How did you get into Drag Racing VW’s?

A. Well basically all Muffler Mikes fault. See we met via the Cal-Look forum, and I came by his place for him to give a look at my car that I was having some trouble with and basically I never left. I got to pit and help him out that year and during the off season almost every weekend he was twisting my wrist. Next thing I know I had a race car (LOL). And now I am going to race Pro Mod. Gee thanks Mike (LOL).
