LITTLE
RIVER, TX (MAY 7, 2007) - With
a 40% chance of rain heading into Sunday's Inaugural Texas
Volks
Blast at Temple Raceway in Texas, there were a few show
promoters/organizers who were probably pretty nervous. The rain held
out and the humidity set in, "I will take the hot/muggy weather over
rain any day",
said Carl Nolen. In all there were 39 race cars in the three
categories, Hot Rod Performance Automotive Pro Stock, CB Performance
Bracket Class and the Oak Hill Automotive Street Class. "Dyno"
Don Chamberlin was on hand calling the races, is there anybody
else you would want calling your run down the drag strip?
This was the
first event of the season for the
Texas Pro Racing Association in 2007. Damon Harmon in the
Quarter Toy II was the #1 qualifier in the Hot Rod Perfromance
Automotive Pro Stock class and won in the finals against #3
qualifier David Crow. In the final round Damon had a 6.25 ET and
David left a little soon and lit the red light.
In
the CB Performance Bracket Class Al Smith faced off against James
Brooke. Al dialed in a 7.06 to James' 7.64 but James lit the red
bulb giving the win to Al. Al didn't take the run easy, clicking off
a 7.060 ET at 94.18 MPH. For the win Al took home $2000.00 in prize
money. This was the second event on the
Texas Volkswagen Drag Racing Association's
2007 schedule.
In the Oak
Hill Automotive Street Class Mike Amaral beat Steve Haldeman in the
finals and took home a trophy and $100.00.
The two $100.00 cash
prizes offered by Lo' Cash Racing for the most "cosmetically
challenged" car with the best reaction time and low ET in the street
class was won by Robert Bulkley.
